Solar Imaging Session - September 30, 2010 - AR11109 /11110 Sunspot Groups

Hello:

The sky this morning was a bit hazy and seeing condition was not that good :( Nevertheless, I still proceeded to observe the Sun through both white light and Ha wavelength. Most prominent feature that caught my eye right away is the beautiful AR 11109 Sunspot Group which shows nice details! One large prominence as well as several small ones can be seen in the Sun's limb. Also visible is the AR 11110 group which I was able to image together with AR11109. Another active region AR11111 group is still near the limb and doesn't show much details yet but who knows? Maybe it might also become a big group in the days to come :) LOL Also need to be viewed is a new possible active region that might emerges near the center of the solar disk. Who knows? It might get designated AR 11112 in the days to come if it developed further........

In white light, AR11109 Sunspot Group is beautiful to view as it displays nice details in both umbra and penumbral regions plus a nice bright light bridge cutting the through the main umbral group. As I was planning to image AR11110 and 11111 groups, thick clouds started to cover the Sun and I had to quit imaging in high resolution and quickly snap a whole disk shot through passing clouds before I got totally overcast! Nevertheless, still happy with the session as I was again able to image the Sun again through Ha and also white light after a long spell :(

Solar Imaging Session - September 19, 2010 - AR11106 /11108 Sunspot Groups

Hello:

After an eventful and joyful free public viewing last night in celebration of the International Observe the Moon Night at AstroCamp Observatory in SM MOA San Miguel by the Bay, I wake up this morning to observe and image the Sun again for the 3rd straight day.

The sky this morning is still hazy and seeing condition is poor. Nevertheless, I still proceeded with my routine and manage to image both AR 11106 and AR 11108 Sunspot Groups.

Several medium and large prominences are visible on the solar limb as well. I was planning to image the groups in white light but with several large clouds passing in front of the Sun, I forgo imaging them in white light wavelength. I hope to get a chance tomorrow to image them in white light.

September 18, 2010 ALP InOMN Activity at AstroCamp

Hello:

I , together fellow members of the Astronomical League of the Philippines (ALP) provide free public viewing of the Moon last night at AstroCamp in SM MOA San Miguel by the Bay in celebration of the 1st International Observe the Moon Night (InOMN) which was celebrated worldwide on this day. More than 400+ were able to get a chance to view the Moon in low, medium and high power views! Full report can be viewed at http://astroleaguephils.org/archive/news/100918inomn.html. Morfe images can also be viewed at http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/album.php?aid=208857&id=572763004 . I would also like to thank Cutting Edge who provided ALPers Dinner Packs last night. THANK YOU again!

Full reports to follow in a day or two.

Solar Imaging Session - September 18, 2010 (AR11106 /11108 Sunspot Group & Eruptive Prominences!)

Hello:

The sky this morning is a bit hazy and seeing condition is only fair. I can still see the 2 active sunspot groups AR 11106 and AR 11108 as well as several nice eruptive prominences on the solar limb.

Hope to see some large eruptive prominences tomorrow...... If given the time, I might also image through white light tomorrow if weather permits.

Solar Imaging Session - September 17, 2010 (AR11106 /11108 Sunspot Group & Numerous Eruptive Prominences!)

Hello:

The sky this morning was surprisingly good and didn't waste time to start observing and imaging the Sun through the PST-Ha. There are 2 active region groups that can be seen on the solar disk. AR11108 Sunspot Group can be seen at the SE limb while AR11106 Sunspot Group is large but scattered in a large area.

There are also numerous large eruptive prominences that can be seen on the solar limb as well. I hope to be able to continue monitoring the 2 active regions in the days to come.

International Observe The Moon Night at AstroCamp on September 18, 2010

ALP will be hosting a free public observation of the Moon on September 18, 2010 at AstroCamp Observatory in SM MOA San Miguel by the Bay. Numerous telescopes will be setup to let the public get a free view of the Moon under low, medium and high power magnifications!!!

ALP will start the observing session from 6:00pm-9:00pm so join us there not only to observe the Moon but also get to chance to meet with experienced astronomers who will be glad to share their observing skills to all. For more details, please email ALP President James Kevin Ty at jkty@astroleaguephils.org or text your inquiries to +639178559863 or +639228999ALP (257).

Solar Imaging Session - September 10, 2010

Hello:

It's a good feeling to be back doing solar imaging after almost 5 months of solar imaging hiatus :( Expecting to do more solar imaging and observations starting this month though still weather dependent.

The sky this morning was a bit cloudy but there are some small cloud openings that I got to wait for me to image the Sun before the roof obstruct my view. As i look through the eyepiece, I was able to see numerous large eruptive prominences that are visible on the solar limb.

I was able to get some shots before clouds totally obscure my view :( Seeing was poor this morning but hey! Not bad for me to at least get started out again and test my solar imaging setup for more solar work in the days to come!
